Lot consists of: (A) This spectacular carving knife features its original edge, hand rubbed finish, stylized "Montjoy" etch and full tapered tang. The engraved bolsters are accented by pinned and dovetailed burlwood handles with red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: The knife is unused. Present are some light scuffs on the bolsters and spine of blade. The wood handles have also shrunk slightly. (B) An elegant, narrow upswept blade skinner, this knife has its original edge, hand rubbed finish on the blade, stylized "Montjoy" etch, and engraved bolsters. The knife is marked "JRF 2010" on the bottom of the bolster. The fileworked, full tapered tang features a two-finger grip, burlwood handle scales, mosaic pins and red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: The blade displays some light rub marks and a possibly resharpened tip. The handles have shrunk, resulting in a short diagonal crack across the mark side handle at the lower pin, as well as a full width diagonal crack across the reverse side, below the lower mosaic pin. Claude Montjoy of Clinton, South Carolina was a knifemaker for almost 30 years when he passed away in 2011 at the age of 74. A member of the South Carolina Association of Knifemakers, Mr. Montjoy was highly skilled in his craft, creating a large variety of styles and types including slipjoints, interframes, hunters and fighters.
