Colt Single Action Army manufactured October 22th, 1926, documented by factory letter as shipped .45 caliber, 4-3/4" barrel, nickel finish, rubber grips, and factory Level 1 engraved; shipped to Albert Steinfeld Company, Tucson, Arizona in a single gun shipment. The revolver is now mounted with a set of two piece Mother of Pearl grips and is period engraved on backstrap 'JACK'. Engraved in the transitional Wilbur Glahn style of broad scrolls with dot punch background on frame and barrel as well as his tell tale coverage of the cylinder and butt. The gun is accompanied by a very unique silver mounted dress rig with enormous 5-1/2" x 7" engraved silver buckle on a 3-1/2" wide pistol belt with silver jack, spade and heart decor and a hand tooled silver overlay drop loop holster. No name is found on rig. This revolver is reported to have come from the Jack Van Ryder estate by previous owner and the gun is engraved Jack on backstrap. Van Ryder was a contemporary to Charles Russell as well as a noted Rodeo performer in Arizona. He became a literary and is known for many newspaper articles as well as his artwork. Jack Van Ryder painted, performed, and resided in the Southwest of New Mexico and Arizona during the highlighted wild and whooly period. CONDITION: Very good with most all factory nickel finish remaining with slight loss at muzzle from holster carry. All engraving is very sharp and well defined. The marking and legends are excellent. The bore and chambers are bright and sharp. The action smooth and properly functioning. The grips have some very slight edge chipping from age. The rig is pliable and supple. Several of the silver embellishments have been damaged during the period. The silver has a very pleasant patina. A small amount of information from the Arizona Historical Society comes with this revolver outlining the life and career of Jack Van Ryder. TDW
