This is a rare GRB-39 (Grenade Launching Rifle) Anti-Tank Rifle marked “cpj” with eagle over “882” proof and dated “41” on top of receiver. Receiver and sights match serial number with beautifully clear Nazi manufacture and firing proofs on this gun. This particular specimen was originally built as a PzB-39 Anti-Tank rifle which fired a high velocity 7.92x94 mm diameter round. Subsequently, as opposing armor became thicker, the Germans converted these earlier rifles, such as this specimen to launch grenades using a special wood bullet “blank”. One will note the new model designation plate riveted to the top of the receiver upon conversion. As this is indeed an original vintage World War II German conversion, the breechblock and pistol grip are numbered “613a”. This rifle's specially designed original long legged bipod, original carrying handle, and original grenade launching muzzle cup is included. Shoulder stock number is 4486 with Gustfoff eagle over “4” proof. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to extremely fine original blue finish thinning to a gray patina on the high points of the muzzle with some loss of finish to a gray patina a little forward to the center of the barrel. Bore and bolt near excellent. Mechanics need attention as release latch sticks. Leather covered butt fine and serviceable with some wear to the corner edges. This short barreled version of the PzB-39 rifle is a highly sought collectors item, and this specimen would make a fine addition to any German World War II weapon collection. This gun originally fired a high velocity 7.92x94 mm diameter round and is NOT subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act. It remains a Curio and Relic eligible long gun. JWK 18-80
