As documented by accompanying Colt archival letter dated May 18th, 1999 and signed by Kathleen J. Hoyt, Curator, Colt Model 1849 serial number 187254 left the factory on September 25th, 1861 and was shipped to B. Kittredge & Company in Cincinnati, Ohio with 20 other similar guns. 5" barrel with a six shot cylinder, and was factory engraved. Gustave Young style engraving with Germanic scrolls on a punch dot background. Wolf head motif on hammer, human head figure wearing a hat on the left side of barrel lug. Scroll engraving on barrel, loading lever, frame, backstrap, and trigger guard. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Barrel marked with one line "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". Frame and cylinder marked "COLTS PATENT". Housed in a deluxe "French fitted" style case with correct bullet mold, powder flask, combination nipple wrench/screwdriver, percussion cap tin marked "Union Metallic Cartridge Co.", and correct case key This gun revolver is described by Robert M. Jordan in his book "COLTS POCKET 49 IT'S EVOLUTION" Pages 247, 283 & 284. CONDITION: Approximately 60-70% bright blue on barrel mixed with blue-grey patina. Approximately 75% original blue mixed with patina on cylinder. Traces of case color on frame, loading lever, and hammer turning a pleasing grey-brown patina. 90%+ original silver plating on backstrap and trigger guard. Engraving is sharp and crisp. Strong roll die scene on cylinder. Action is tight and crisp. Walnut case is excellent overall with small crack on right front corner of lid. Interior is clean and excellent overall. Correct bullet mold is in good condition with scattered dents and scratches. Powder flask is excellent with no dents and showing a very pleasing patina. Overall a most attractive and documented factory engraved set. MKS
