This gun was originally an Model 1816 Type II or Type III musket altered by Frankford Arsenal with the new Maynard tape primer locks and percussion bolsters made by the Remington Arms Company. Remington Arms contracted with the government between 1856 to 1859 for 20,000 Maynard primer locks and bolsters and delivered all to Philadelphia’s Frankford Arsenal location. This gun has matching 1856 dates on the bolster and lock. Long range rear sight. Rifled. "F.14H" is stamped into the wood on the right side of the butt, meaning unknown. CONDITION: All metal surfaces have been cleaned to bright with areas of light pitting. Markings are clear. Fine mechanical function. Wood has been refinished, no visible cartouches. Bore is very good with strong rifling and some light pitting. GR
