Early rifle built in 1896, serial number 139497. Half octagon, half round barrel with 2/3 length magazine tube. Barrel marked "Marlin Fire-Arms Co. New Haven, CT. U.S.A." with patent dates. Case hardened takedown frame. Factory engraved in the No. 3 pattern with a buck deer surrounded by scroll and border engraving on both sides of frame. Scroll engraving on takedown lug and barrel breech. Scroll engraving on forearm cap. Mid-range tang mounted sight. Lyman front and Marbles rear barrel sights. Deluxe checkered stock and forearm. Crescent rifle style buttplate. CONDITION: Very good overall with approximately 95% original blue on barrel and magazine tube with light scattered oxidation. Traces of original case color on frame, lever, and buttplate, turning a brown patina. Wood retains most of the original varnish with scattered dents and scratches, more heavy on left side. Overall an attractive early Model 1893 rifle. MKS
