Serial number 40394, manufactured in 1854. Matching serial numbers on all major components except wedge marked 0731. Octagon barrel marked "-ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON-" left side of frame marked "COLTS/PATENT". Full nickel with one piece varnished walnut grips. Backstrap inscribed "SAMMY FROM UNCLE JOHN" British proof marks on barrel and cylinder. Cylinder marked with roll die naval battle scene and "COLTS PATENT NO. 40394". Cased in a walnut London case with green baize interior, fitted in the partition style. Nice original label inside lid marked, "Wm. Moore & Wm.Grey/Gun Manufacturers/To H.R.H. Prince Albert/43,Old Bond Street,/London". Complete with blued two cavity unmarked bullet mold, powder flask marked "G & J.W. Hawksley/Sheffield", blued L-shaped combination nipple wrench/screwdriver, Eley Bro's percussion cap tin, and cleaning rod. Has correct case key. CONDITION: Revolver is fine overall with most nickel remaining, flaking on cylinder and barrel lug. Dents on right side of barrel around the wedge. Scattered dents and light corrosion along barrel flats. Some flaking on frame, trigger guard, and along backstrap inscription. Nice original unmolested screws. Grips showing most original varnish with light to moderate wear and a couple of scuffs through the varnish on the left side. Bore is near fine with some light to moderate pitting, strong rifling. Action is tight and crisp. Case is fine overall showing moderate wear. Interior is clean and bright with minimum fading. Bullet mold is fine with most original blue. Powder flask is fine showing most original finish with a few light dents. Overall a very nice London cased Colt 1851 Navy. MKS
