Of standard configuration throughout, with bright polished barrel and some pitting, particularly at breech and on bolster. Stamped SC and dated 1855, VP over eagle. The lock has faint date 1855 and strong US Springfield and eagle on Maynard tape primer door. Walnut stock with over-varnish and minor marks, no visible cartouche, and some wear. Deep dents from shoulder stock being affixed on either side of wrist. Brass mounts in good condition. Both sling swivel and lanyard and butt are present. Primer mechanism is functional. Primer door appears to be original. Clean-out screw is possibly an old replacement. Shoulder stock with brass yoke and butt plate appears to be an original (for a change). Numbered 7 with US on butt plate. CONDITION: Full dimension wood with some raised grain. Large letter P carved on right side of stock. Brass with a pleasant color. Action is very good and tight. Rifled bore is good. An above average example of this most attractive and interesting US shoulder stock pistol carbine, with the added desirability of potential Confederate use. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
