(Purdey number corresponds to 1882) 30 - 3/16" dovetailed steel barrels with slightly raised flat matted rib are engraved "J. Purdey & Son." (no S) "314 - 1/2/ Oxford Street. London." on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with 1986 London re-proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. No other proofs are present on barrels. Bottoms of barrels are engraved with serial numbers and Whitworth steel information. Coin finished top lever bar-in-wood action with hidden third fastener is fitted with front spring rebounding locks with round bodied serpentine hammers having stylized dolphin heads. Action and locks are engraved with 80% coverage small scroll. "J. Purdey & Son" (no S) is re-engraved on each lockplate. New British proofs are on water table and number "11" has been stamped in front of "238" on water table. "238" also appears on forend iron. Nicely streaked and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 7/8" over brown leather covered pad. Stock also features drop points and point pattern checkering. Matching short splinter forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Fine, as refurbished. Barrels retain nearly 90% of what may be their original black, thinned on sides. Action cleaned to pewter gray. Stocks have old oil refinish, checkering re-cut. Bores are very fine with some spots in left barrel (may clean). Action is a touch loose. Locks are good. Gun is housed in older green canvas case with leather corners, lined in burgundy cloth. Reproduction label and charge card are in lid. Case contains cleaning equipment and keys. Case is generally good, straps and handle good. MGM16.
