Eli Whitney contract 1841 "Mississippi rifle" with lock dated 1850. Percussion lock with 1850 date and "N.Haven" behind hammer and "E. Whitney / US" in front of hammer. Rifled musket style barrel with rifle sights. "US", "GW" and "VP" proofs at breech. Walnut wood stock with brass hardware including two brass barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate with "US" mark. Brass patchbox with extra nipple inside. Original ramrod. Comes with reproduction leather sling and brass on wood barrel plug. CONDITION: Overall good patina on metal surfaces. Wood retains original finish with usage and handling marks. Mechanically sound and functions fine.
