This handsome pair of English flints features unusual brass octagonal barrels with Birmingham proofs and a large letter R on side of breech. Stepped and bolted locks signed J&W Richards. Plain swan neck cocks with border engraving. Frizzens engraved en suite with cock. Roller bearing frizzen springs. Austere silver mounts by famous English silversmith Charles Freeth and so struck on tang of trigger guard. Trigger guard engraved with a flower and acorn finial. Sideplate nails with silver escutcheons. Plain silver thumbpiece. Silver butts in bird form engraved with a flower and deeply struck CF for Charles Freeth. Moulded silver ramrod pipes. Figured walnut fullstocks with flattened grip sides. CONDITION: Barrels with good unpolished brass patina. Locks polished over minor corrosion but clear J&W Richards signature. All small parts appear to be original, including topjaws and screws. Silver mounts are crisp, showing little wear and excellent hallmarks. Figured stocks with minor marks and what appears to be considerable original varnish. Both pistols retain their original horn tipped ramrods, one with worm. Actions are excellent, bores are fine. A handsome pair of brass barreled, silver mounted, English officer's pistols. MZ
