The round two-stage iron barrel is unmarked and has a brass sight mounted on top near the muzzle. There is also a bayonet lug mounted on the bottom, about a quarter inch from the muzzle, denoting the barrel was possibly shortened during its period of use. The flat banana lockplate has beveled edges and is unmarked. The brass furniture is Germanic in style and some brass headed tacks appear to have been added during the period of use. The trigger guard was replaced with an iron French model 1763 Charleville trigger guard. The walnut stock has Germanic relief carving around the lock, side plate, and barrel tang. The butt is extremely thick and heavy and is carved with the initials "WC" on the left side. The ramrod is period, but probably not original. CONDITION: Barrel has been cleaned and retains a mix of light grey patina and darker heavy patina, with some scattered areas of corrosion. The lock is a professional re-conversion. Brass has been polished and now retains a mellowing patina. The stock shows heavy wear from use as well as scattered areas of damage and repairs. There are some minor repairs around the lock and much of the fore-end has been professionally restored. There are some minor losses near the muzzle and the ramrod entry ferrule, as well as one other, are modern replacements.
