This Artillery Colt has letters from both Colt and Kopec. The Colt letter states that it was shipped directly to Manila in the Philippines to the Commanding Officer in charge on November 26, 1901 in a shipment of 100 guns. Kopec details each numbered part as follows: Frame number 5641 falls within lot 6, a principle lot from which the 7th Cavalry received their initial shipment of 7 - 1/2" Cavalry models shipped during July of 1874 and of course, was recalled in 1893 where barrel was shortened and assorted parts assembled before refinish and shipment to Manila in 1901. The trigger guard was made in 1875 and sub-inspected by Casey. The backstrap number is not readable but is Ainsworth inspected (1873-74). The cylinder number is not totally readable but the style dates it to 1873-74. The barrel is a mid 1880's number inspected by David C Clark. He further states that the grips are correct style but no visible cartouche having been sanded at one time. CONDITION: The revolver shows no signs of any original refinish from arsenal and is now an overall peppery gray. It indexes and locks up perfectly. Bore is sharp and crisp. This revolver was obviously no closet queen and obviously saw extensive service during the Banana Wars in the Pacific. DB
