(1936) 27" chopper lump barrels are engraved "Boss & Co 41, Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London. W. Made in England" on swamped narrow game ribs. "1" and "2" are gold inlaid on rear portions of ribs, top levers, and forend tips denoting a true pair. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers. Serial numbers are on bottoms of barrels. Case hardened sidelock actions feature automatic safeties (SAFE inlaid in gold), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective Boss triggers. Actions have rare easy opening feature with extra strong cocking lever springs. Actions are engraved in typical Boss house style with exceptionally well cut rose and small scroll by Jack Sumner with 18 rose bouquets. Beaded small bow trigger guards have serial numbers in relief on tangs. Well matched fiddle figured and well streaked European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14 - 1/8" over dark brown leather covered pads. Stocks feature racy swept bottom line to stock in typical Boss fashion, along with traditional drop points, point pattern checkering, and vacant gold ovals. Matching splinter Boss ejector forends have Anson releases. Guns are housed in two gun motor case with stitched leather corners embossed "N. A. M." on top. Case is lined in dark burgundy cloth and has Boss Cork Street label in lid. Case contains a red morocco leather wallet with Purdey markings containing a pair of Purdey snap caps. CONDITION: Excellent, mostly original. Barrel of gun "1" is an old re-black. Gun "2" has approximately 80% original blue, thinned on sides. Breech ends of barrels appear to retain original damascening. Actions retain 40 - 50% original case hardening color, silvered on beads and fences, thinning on bottoms. Lockplates retain nearly all of their original color. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish, possibly stripped as the grain is very open. They do not appear to be sanded. Checkering competently re-cut. Pads are relatively new. Bores are very fine to excellent with a few very minor pings, and some light scratches toward breech end in gun "2". Actions are tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time on both. Triggers work. Case leather is fine with scuffs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine. Label is very clean, but creased. Original owner and barrel specifications are stated on Boss ledger page 473. MGM20.
