According to noted authority Bruce Canfield, "most of the Winchester Model 1897 trench guns manufactured under World War 1 US government contracts were not stamped with martial markings". This is such an example. Its serial number places it within excepted range (E613000-E705000). It has the correct six row heat shield with 1918 patent date stamped on left side. It bears a commercial grade Winchester blue finish. This is proper solid frame example with a 20" barrel stamped "cyl". Barrel and frame have proper WP stamp. Slide bar stamped Model 1897. The walnut stock has thin wrist with non fluted high comb. Winchester logo black buttplate and sling swivels. No US stamps on gun of any kind. CONDITION: Frame retains nearly 90% of it's factory original high polish blue with light handling marks. Barrel, tube and shield retain majority of original blue although the shield is flaking to patina a bit at front. Stocks are excellent with light handling marks. Gun has a mirror bright bore. Comes with a M1917 bayonet and scabbard. DB
