Between May 28, 1909 and September 13, 1911, the Army ordered 15403 large frame New Service revolvers chambered for the .45 Colt caliber. All were blue finish with 5 1/2" barrels. The finish was the commercial type high polish blue and each gun was fitted with a pair of smooth walnut grips both of which were stamped RAC for Renaldo Carr. The butt is stamped US Army Model 1909. United States Property is stamped under the barrel. RAC is stamped under the barrel, on end of cylinder and on right side of frame. Its official designation was "Colt's Double-Action Revolver, Caliber .45" The screws are fire blued as is the trigger and top of hammer.This outstanding Colt 1909 is accompanied by a letter from famed author Charles Clawson stating that it is from his personal collection and is 100% authentic and correct. CONDITION: This gun has survived in spectacular condition with 95% bright factory blue finish, most of the fire blue on screws, hammer, and trigger is present. Grips are excellent with few handling marks. The bore is near mint and the action is crisp. One of the finest known examples ever to offered. DB
