According to Colt research, this is one of a one hundred gun shipment from Colt to the Royal Norwegian Naval Service in Halifax, Canada on January 16, 1942. In June 1940, some 13 warships and 5 aircraft of the Royal Norwegian Navy, including their 500 operating personnel, followed the King and parliament to Britain. Throughout the war, some 118 ships served the Royal Norwegian Navy, of which 58 were in active service at the end of the war. By then the Royal Norwegian Navy had continuously and actively served Allied forces since the summer of 1940, and had suffered the loss of 27 ships and 650 men. Their Navy operated out of Halifax. This pistol is, for all intents and purposes, is a standard commercial Colt .45 caliber with commercial blue finish and checkered walnut grips with the addition of "No. 12" stamped on right side of frame. There are no other military or inspection stamps. The magazine is a Norwegian example with the six holes on back. The gun has all proper pre-War type parts to include the short checkered trigger, checkered arched mainspring housing, type two rear sight with beveled edges and u notch with checkered wide spur hammer. CONDITION: Outstanding, retaining nearly all of the original Colt commercial blue with few light handling marks and hint of wear at muzzle. The slide has the matching serial number. The blued barrel with polished chamber is simply stamped "Colt .45 Auto". This pistol comes with an original Norwegian Navy brown leather flap holster stamped "KGL NORSKE MARINE" along with a leather magazine pouch with the exact same stamp on face along with one extra standard magazine. One of the rarest of all World War II shipped Colts in phenomenal condition with rare magazine and leather. DB
