In 1843, the US Revenue Cutter Service (forerunner to the US Coast Guard) purchased 144 of these guns. Inspected by Joseph C. Bragg. The lock is marked at the rear "U.S.R. / 1843" and has the usual 3 line Ames address. The barrel markings are mostly gone to due to a heavy cleaning, however "43/ JCB/ P" are still present. CONDITION: Heavily cleaned with areas of pitting. Lock markings are clear. Brass has been cleaned as well. Stock has been refinished, cartouche is weak. Bore has pitting. Good mechanical function. Nipple is a replacement. GR
