Desirable 4" barrel with two line "ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY." .31 caliber with straight rifling in barrel. Serial number 7156, manufactured in 1848. Brass pin front sight. "COLTS/PATENT" marking on left side of frame. 5-shot cylinder with with roll scene of U.S. Mounted Riflemen in combat with Comanche Indians. "Q" marking on bottom of trigger guard below serial number. Matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and cylinder. Blue finish on barrel and cylinder, case hardened frame and hammer, silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. Square back trigger guard. One piece varnished walnut grips. Single safety pin on cylinder breech, thin shoulders on trigger guard to grips. Short trigger, thin grip profile, cupped cylinder pin for loading ball into cylinder. Barrel address reads from breech to muzzle. Bevel lid, mahogany case fitted in partition style with dark blue interior, complete with correct Colts Patent powder flask with Eagle clutching Colt revolver, brass Colt Patent bullet mold, and Eley Bros. percussion cap tin labeled "Colt's Pistol Caps". CONDITION: Revolver fine overall, with 10-15% original blue on barrel turning a pleasing brown patina. 90-95% original silver plating on trigger guard and backstrap. Strong cylinder scene. Nice unmolested screws. Most original varnish remaining on grips with scattered dents and scratches. Case has two cracks running width of the lid, overall solid with moderate wear. Interior is fine with moderate wear. Nice patina on powder flask and bullet mold. Overall a very fine example of a scarce and desirable model Colt "Baby Dragoon". -MKS-
