The background letter dated 2005 relates that this gun was sold on December 27, 1888 to Col. R.E. Lockhart and is listed as plated with wood stocks, 6" barrel, in caliber .476. His military career with the British army started in 1860 with the Royal Artillery and continued through 1894. Of special note, he was the first president of St. Andrews Royal Golf Club. The top of the barrel is stamped Army & Navy CSL which is where many of the British officers of the nineteenth century purchased their revolvers. The frame is stamped Webley patent along with the W&S bullet logo. It features an octagon barrel, six shot, double action with two piece walnut grips. It is finished in the scarce factory nickel finish. With exception to the cylinder, the balance of gun retains approximately 95% original factory nickel finish. The cylinder is about 75% with some freckling and a couple areas of deep dark patina. Grips have usual handling marks. Fine action with a sharp bore. Nice example of an early large frame double action revolver owned by British officer. This gun comes with a stack of history on Lockhart. DB
