Approximately 112,000 total Peabody Carbines and Rifles were manufactured from 1866-71. This example with 33" round barrel with post front sight suitable for socket bayonet lug is blue finished with case colored receiver. Two piece American walnut stocks with forearm being retained with two bands. Butt stock has steel military butt plate and is equipped with sling swivels. Chambering is believed to be .43 Spanish but not positively identified. A small cartouche is evident on left side of wrist of WC inside of small oval. Ladder adjustable rear sight is graduated to 1300 yards. Crown V proofs are found on reciever bridge as well as top of chamber. These foreign contract military pattern military rifles were distributed world wide and are frequently found in poor condition. This example is certainly the exception. CONDITION: Very fine with most all vivid case colors remaining on receiver. The barrel retains most all of the factory rust blue finish with small areas of loss at muzzle and edges, The bore is very fine with sharp rifling and shiny lands and grooves. The oil finishes stocks are equally fine with most all finish remaining and only a few minor storage dings and abrasions. This is a very fine and exceptional Peabody military rifle. TDW
