World War II scrapbook and souvenirs which belonged to Sergeant Norman C. Hammond who served in the Army Air force in the Aleutians and in the 8th Air Force in England. The scrapbook contains a number of letters, orders, clippings, paper money, insignia and documents pertaining to Hammond's military service, including: General Eisenhower D-Day Message, British-made 8th Air Force Patch, British-made SHAEF wool patch, piece of cloth exhibiting a stamped German eagle with note reading "Berlin 3rd September, Evaline honey, I cut this out from the bottom of Hitler's chair", a small piece of wood with note reading "Berlin 3rd September, Evaline Darling, This is a piece of Hitlers chair", a small piece of wood with note reading "Berlin 3rd September, A piece of Hitlers desk". Included are captured souvenirs including a 5-1/4" piece of a Waffen SS officer's cuff title in bullion reading "Adolf Hitler", NSDAP armband, police shako eagle and police visor cap eagle missing its reverse prongs. Also included is a newspaper clipping picturing Sergeant Hammond holding a Japanese surrender leaflet; leaflet is present. CONDITION: Scrapbooks pages are yellowed and brittle, remainder of the material is in very good condition.
