3rd quarter 19th century. American. This nice small example with shield-form crest and three-quarter gallery above a shelf supported on shaped brackets, centering a back panel applied with an oval mount. The case with hinged sloping lid with maroon baize liner on the writing slope, opening to an interior well of compartments. The left case side facing fitted with a panel door, opening to an arrangement of filing slots, the opposing side fitted with a bank of four molded short drawers and a pull-out pen and ink tray. The front and rear of the desk each with an arrangement of flat panels with molded edges. The walnut chair, dating to the 1930s, is in the Jacobean style with a slip seat. Side of desk: 55" T x 26" W x 21" D. Condition: Desk retains original untouched surface, with wear to baize writing surface, otherwise with rich patina and good color throughout. No structural damages or restorations.
