The Gus Khrustalny Factory (Russia, 1756 - 2017). The vase, possibly made by the hand of Vladimir Kasatkin, master cutter, carver and designer. This monumental vase was produced as a special order and has never been exhibited prior to offering this vase at auction today. It was produced just prior to the closing of the company and retains two original factory labels. In three parts, the 24% cased crystal vase is beautifully cut and displays vibrant sapphire blue color. Brilliantly cut in the form of faceted scrolling fronds, cut as a stylized urn and repeated in the two upper sections of the vase. The flared rim is fluid in design. The Gus Khrustalny Factory in Russia had the reputation of being one of the finest manufacturers of cut glass in the world and all their work was 24% lead crystal. In 1857, the factory was granted permission to depict the state coat of arms of Russia on all items produced for the Czar of Russia, Alexander II. The company won the Grand Prix award at the universal exhibition of Paris in 1900 and their items are still featured in several museums. They did works for the council of the Russian Federation, the state Duma, and produced works for organizational committees of different festivals, contests and competitions throughout Russia and Europe during the 19th century.
