Lot consists of: (A) Heer Dress Dagger, (B) Luftwaffe First Pattern Dress Dagger, (C) German Fighting Knife, (D) World War II German Fighting Knife. (A) The Unmarked Heer Dress Dagger Blade is made of finished steel and exhibits a few scattered light marks. The cross-guard and pommel cap are made of aluminum, and exhibit even patina and darkening throughout. The grip is a late war type with a synthetic plastic over wooden core, and exhibits scattered light marks and discoloration in a few areas from age. The steel scabbard retains approximately 70% of its original darkened finish with scattered light marks throughout and one larger ding between the two hanger bands, which does not affect the blade insertion. CONDITION: Overall Very Good. (B) The Luftwaffe 1st Pattern Dress Dagger Blade is maker marked for the firm of “Richard Herder”. The blade exhibits excellent cross-graining, a few light runner streaks and scattered light marks throughout. The cross-guard and pommel cap are made of aluminum with brass swastika inserts. The blue leather wire-bound grip exhibits scattered marks from wear throughout. The scabbard has been painted blue and exhibits scattered marks throughout. It is not clear if the painting of the scabbard was done during the war or post-war. The upper chain bands of the scabbard are made of nickel and show a nice, darkened patina from age. The chain and attachment clip are the early nickel type, which exhibit the same even dark patina as the bands they are attached to. The lower drag scabbard fitting is made of aluminum with a few light marks. The lower fitting is missing one of its retaining screws and does not appear to be original to the dagger. CONDITION: Overall Good. (C) The Blade of the German Fighting Knife exhibits scattered marks and discoloration throughout. The wooden handle shows some discoloration and signs of use. The black painted steel scabbard retains approximately 80% of its original black finish with scattered marks throughout. The leather belt loop and retaining loop show even use, with the button of the retaining loop having pulled through the leather strap. CONDITION: Good. (D) The Blade of the German World War II Fighting Knife is maker marked and plated. The blade exhibits a few scattered marks but is overall in very nice. The guard and pommel are also plated with scattered marks. This example has two synthetic wooden grip plates riveted to the tang, with one side having received a hand carved swastika at some point. The black steel scabbard retains approximately 85% of its original black paint. A simple leather belt loop is riveted to the scabbard. CONDITION: Very good. D.W.
