Lot consists of three swords. (A) Circa 1740 straight blade cuttoe with guard. Cast brass hilt with fleurs-de-lis and female upper torso on pommel, reeded dark wood cylindrical grip, stretched out lounging nude figures on quillon block and counterguard with floral and other elements likely suggesting a feast of plenty. Single edge blade with broad central and narrow back edge fullers with rudimentary back edge. CONDITION: Very good. Minor chips to upper grip at pommel. Brass elements dark in recesses, brighter raised areas from rubbing. Hilt is tight. Blade is dark, smooth metal, good edge and point. Short crack 1 - 1/4" from guard on reverse extending 1/2 inch from top edge of blade, but hairline and seems stable. Does not seem to be visible on obverse under counterguard. (B) A reduced size 1872 officer sword for a young cadet or child. Floral and star motifs on hilt and obverse counterguard. Polished black wood grip. CONDITION: Fair. Pommel and hilt loose. Chips to upper edge grip. Spring button missing on folding guard. Blade with median ridge is a mix of bright with gray and brown spotting, some light scratches and slight roughness to edge. Black leather scabbard with tip but missing throat. Seam good. Wear to finish. (C) Regulation US 1840 pattern officer sword and scabbard. Standard configuration. Folding guard, etched blade, black leather scabbard with brass mounts and long frog hook. CONDITION: Good. Brass hilt has dark, untouched patina. Folding guard missing spring retention button. Blade with good edge and point, bright mixed with much gray and brown. Etch floral and military motifs including American eagle with US shield and motto ribbon, and vine etching on back of blade are visible, but have overlying gray areas in places. Scabbard is good. Dark mounts match hilt. Some opening to seam. Engraved drag and bottom of upper mount. Hook in place. Scuffing and wear to surface and one bend, but solid. An interesting, untouched group of swords.
