Lot consists of three American swords with straight blades, brass hilts and pommels, dating about 1835 to 1860. (A) Helmet pommel, mother-of-pearl grips, American eagle on counterguard. Etched spadroon blade. Engraved scabbard. CONDITION: Very good. Slight looseness to pommel. Good gilt in recesses. Wear to backstrap and under strap showing dark brass. Slight play to counterguard. Vivid etching to blade. A few gray spots near tip. Two significant edge nicks on lower edge, one at end of frosting, the other just above. Scabbard very good with some wear to gold wash. Floral engraving near rings. Cloud and dot border lines. (B) Sharkskin and wire wrapped grip. Chain guard. Crossguard with langets up and down. Floral cast motifs. 1832/34 style blade. CONDITION: Good to very good. Grip excellent. Hilt and scabbard are age toned brass. Frosting has turned gray, but bright etching is very visible with American eagle on reverse, stand of arms with liberty cap on obverse, along with floral motifs. Scabbard has median ridge rather than oval cross section appropriate to blade, but aged patina on both is a match and they appear to have been together forever. (C) Columbia head pommel. Plain mother-of-pearl grip panels. American eagle centered on counterguard. Blue and gilt spadroon blade. CONDITION: good. Engraved scabbard shows mended break with brass sleeve. Looseness to hilt. Blade shows gray and strong rubbing to blue and gilt. Weyersberg marked blade. Horstmann stamp reverse of scabbard at throat. (SR)
