Manufactured in 1927 by DWM under contract for the Netherlands. The Dutch ordered around 3,820 Model 1911 (M.11) grip safety Lugers in 1927 for the Royal Dutch Indies Army. These pistols were delivered in 1928, and fall within the 10,182 to 14,001 serial number range. This example falls towards the latter end of the contract at serial number 13,228. The right side of the receiver is marked "KL", indicating DWM manufacture for the 1927/1928 Dutch contract. Left side of receiver and barrel bear an "N" crown nitro proof. Top of barrel is marked "1927" signifying year of manufacture. Left side of frame retains a brass plate inscribed "1 - IV Atj./ 10", indicating use by the 4th Garrison Battalion of the Dutch East Indies Army. Extractor is marked "GELADEN", with "RUST" on the safety. Matching numbers include: Frame, locking bolt, trigger sideplate, trigger, hold-open latch, receiver, barrel, trigger bar, breechblock, firing pin, firing pin spring guide, rear toggle link, receiver axle, recoil lever, and checkered walnut grips. Magazine is unnumbered and unstamped. Grips bear entire serial number on their interior. CONDITION: Metal components retain plentiful amounts of reapplied blue finish, with some areas of cleaned pitting beneath the finish. Grip straps show thinning to bluing, with soft areas of patina showing through. Strawed components show thinning and wear. Checkered walnut grips show scattered indentations and a small area of loss on the right grip, but retain a pleasing amount of checkering. Bright mirror bore with strong lands and grooves throughout. Overall, an exceptional specimen of a desirable Dutch 1927/1928 contract M.11 Luger that would be sure to find a place in any advanced Luger collector's collection. MW
