Classic Confederate cedarwood canteen with turned sides, slat rim, iron bands and iron strap loops. 7-1/4" diameter, 2-1/2" width. CONDITION: Excellent. No spout, but all slats, bands and brackets are in place. Wood with good color. Very minor scratches and handling marks. Scattered areas of surface rust to the bands. Modern rope tied to brackets for hanging display. The classic Rebel canteen, modeled on earlier American patterns for wide production with limited resources. Readily identified as Confederate during the war and eagerly sought after as a souvenir by northern soldiers. (SR) CORRECTION: Close examination reveals the name "A.P. Cuttinng (?)" inscribed lightly on one face of the canteen.
