Samuel J. Heston worked in Reading, Pennsylvania circa 1870 then moved to Worthington, Indiana circa 1880. Rifled full octagon barrel with blade front sight and notched rear. Percussion lock controlled by double set trigger. Walnut half stock with brass trigger guard, side plate, and barrel escutcheon. German silver buttplate and pewter nosecap. Comes with contemporary powder horn produced for the United States Bicentennial. Scrimshawed with federal eagle and shield, banner with "Life, Liberty and Prosperity 1776". Initialed by maker "DJM". CONDITION: Rifle is in fair condition with some heavy usage marks. Metal has faded to a brown patina with barrel having extra slots and screw holes for sights. Wood retains an old finish with no visible repairs or cracks. Good mechanics with shootable bore. Horn is in good condition missing plug. No breaks or cracks with sharp scrimshawing. Comes with rope sling. DLM
