The White Vending Machine Co. patented the "Happy Jap" chewing gum machine on August 26, 1902. The machine came in two versions, a stick gum version where the stick was vended lengthwise through the teeth of the Happy Jap, and this one, a tab gum version utilizing a mechanism similar to the Buffalo vending machine, also made by the White Vending Machine Co. Made out of cast-iron, this Happy Jap is in original paint and comes with a very rare original stand, and a replaced front sign. The paint is worn and there is some loss of color and finish through out. That said, it has a great vintage look, and with the original stand, a great add to any arcade, vending, carnival collection. Referenced in "Silent Salesman Too" by Bill Eres, page 151. Working and with key.
