A very early version of a vending machine manufactured for Thomas Adams, founder of Adams Chewing Gum and one of the early adopters of vending machines as a method to market his product, circa 1890. This is a four-column vendor where each column has its own coin entry. The front paper-under-glass sign advertises Adams Tutti-Frutti gum and has a mirror in the top portion. Made out of North American white oak with brass and steel mechanisms, the mechanism cover is tin and retains the original pinstriping and paint. The oak case shows signs of age and wear, but has a perfect aged patina. There is some plating loss and oxidation to the coin entries. Another great example of a very early Adams vending machine. See elsewhere in the auction for a two and four-column version of similar Adams Vending machines. Reference in "Silent Salesman Too" by Bill Enes, page 4.
