Three stage cannon barrel with turnkey protrusion. Top of breech engraved "Lowe" on a ribbon amidst a spray of florals and scrolls. Patent breech. Under breech engraved "LONDON" with view and proof marks. Line border around the action. Cock with replaced topjaw and screw; hammer screw also replaced. Trigger guard with a floral and line engraving, not only on the trigger guard but also on the action around the trigger guard. Tang engraved with floral with a carved shell motif in the wood. Vacant silver thumbpiece surrounded by a helmet, flags, and cannon. Left side of stock with a stand of arms. Buttcap in the face of a grotesque. CONDITION: Good. Metal with scattered patches of darkness from inactive oxidation, engraving still visible and attractive. Wood is good, slightly shy to metal in a few areas as it has shrunk over time, with minor scattered nicks and dings from use. Action will not hold on full cock and needs attention. Bore is good, with smooth oxidation throughout. EW
CORRECTION: Pistol dates circa 1760 and has a screw barrel, not a patent breech. Proof marks under the barrel are a Crown over a P and a Crown over an F for foreigner, denoting that Lowe was not a part of the London Gunmaker's Guild.
