Two stage octagon to round barrrel with swamped muzzle. At one point, this was inlaid extensively with floral koftgari work which has since rubbed away; two major areas of decoration remain near stage change in barrels and near muzzle. When pistol is rolled in light, one can also see areas of different patination where the koftgari flaked. Some traces of koftgari work is visible on lockplate and wheel cover. Cock is sparsely decorated with scalloping and short engraving. Bulbous butt decorated with six iron bands that have visible stars, buttcap with traces of work. Deeply carved stock is held in place by two screws with further decoration. Stock depicts a mixture of floral patterns, faces, rabbits, a reclining nude woman, cherubim, and a helmeted warrior. Ramrod a modern replacement. Accompanied by a faceted spanner key with a flat screwdriver head on one end, three socket spanners on other and decorated with a rotatable midsection and pierced Gothic design, as well as a combination tool and flask with detachable flattened head and four scalloped out cuts. CONDITION: Very good as untampered with. Metal an even brown patina mixing with flashes of dove grey. One piece of wood missing behind cock. Stock with some rubbing to high edges. Action needs attention as cock will not release. Sliding pan cover releases appropriately. Bore is good, smooth patina throughout. Spanner wrench is excellent with some marring around sockets and silvering to edges. Flask was cleaned at one point and is now a gunmetal grey with areas of old inactive oxidation. This is an extremely attractive German wheelock of the kind that is infrequently seen, complete with accessories. EW
