Blade front sight dovetailed in the smooth flat rib, rear sight dovetailed in as well with one standing leaf and one folding leaf, no range designations. Rib near breech engraved "V. CHR. SCHILLING SUHL PREUSSEN" for Valentin Christoph Schilling. Browned Damascus barrels. with sling swivel soldered to bottom rib. Barrel flats with serial number, barrel with what looks to be "GK", possibly where Schilling sourced the barrels. Forearm with two part rotary lock, last three (771) of serial number on forearm interior and locking wedge. Rather plain hammers with back action locks, left with a vignette of a doe falling after being shot, right with a running buck; attractive scalloped recoil shields. Receiver with simple scroll. Trigger guard with distinct Germanic trigger guard with horn extension at rear, double triggers, both set. Checkered at wrist in point pattern with pancake cheekpiece. Sling swivel near toe. Buttplate with serial number and simple geometric bordering. Left side of stock has a crown stamped into the wood, reason unknown, next to what appears to be three sets of pin holes, perhaps for a cheek piece or shell holder. CONDITION: Very fine as rehabilitated. Barrels have been rather heavily rebrowned, with evidence of Damascus twisting still evident in some areas. Stock has been gently sanded and refinished. Left cock does not hold on full cock. Both set triggers operate appropriately. Bore is very good with visible rifling and even oxidation throughout. EW
