Oil on masonite, circa 1915. Shepard was an American race car driver who volunteered to treat the wounded in World War I. He worked in a hospital run by American volunteers in Chantilly, France. His work helped him to receive the Knight of the Legion de Honeur, the Croix de Guerre and the American Field Service medal. He gave up his estate in Chantilly for those sick or wounded in the American Field Service as served as the president of the organization and chairman of the Paris Branch. Accompanied by a photograph of the models. The nurse is wearing several civilian medals for service. Inpainting on soldier's face and uniform. Small tear and repair lower right.
