Label on reverse: The Closson Galleries. James Adams Ekin (1819–1891) was a Union Army officer in the Civil War. He achieved fame as a member of the military commission trying the conspirators involved with the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Inpaint to the face minor areas of the background. Small puncture near sitter's right shoulder. Retains a heavy coat of varnish. Beautiful, original frame.
