Remington Hepburn No. 3 Sporting Rifle. 30" heavy octagon barrel chambered in .45-70 Govt. Blue with case hardened frame and loading lever. Select grain checkered pistol grip stock and forearm with steel schnabel tip. Carbine style steel buttplate. Double set triggers. Standard sights. An old note is glued to the stock that reads:"THIS GUN WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 1883 PRACTICALLY ALL MY BIG GAME HUNTING WAS DONE WITH IT. IT HAS A HALF POUND OF LEAD UNDER THE BUTT PLATE/J.M. TAYLOR 1943" CONDITION: Good overall. Barrel appears to have been painted black at some point. Traces of original blue, with balance a blue/brown patina. Bore is fine with strong rifling and modest abrasion. Frame has turned a nickel color patina. Wood shows heavy wear with two cracks in the stock at the wrist. Forearm has a 2-1/2 long crack at the frame. -MKS-
