Early manufactured Marlin Model 1881 Lever-Action Rifle serial number 1383. Two line barrel address "J.M. MARLIN. NEW-HAVEN, CONN., U.S.A." over patent dates. "Heavy receiver" with full length magazine tube and 28" octagon barrel chambered in .40-60 Marlin. Special order Marlin double set triggers with tang sight and standard Marlin rear sight and blade front. Two piece plain walnut stock and forearm with rifle forearm grip cap and rifle buttplate. CONDITION: Good to very good with metal parts fading to a dove gray patina with wear from use and freckling from storage. Magazine tube exhibits a small dent to left side. Tang sight is bent and is not in working order. Forearm cap is missing a screw. Screw heads have been marred. Stock and forearm are good as sanded and finish added with heavy wear from use but remain strong with no discernable cracks. Some darkness from oil and sweat near wrist of stock. Comb has been non-factory fit for tang sight. Action appears to work correctly. Bore is dark with visible rifling. -TN-
