Originally produced in 1874. Recently obtained from a Northern Montana collection. Period customized into a lightweight sporting rifle with a 26" barrel, Sporting blade front sight and a fixed Rocky Mountain Buckhorn rear sight. Classic inset pored pewter forend cap with crescent buttplate. Evidence in the wood shows were previously 4 tacks or other decoration had been on both sides of the butt but have been long ago removed and holes filled. 2-piece military trigger guard assembly has been modified to remove the sling swivel. High arch breech block marked Model 1873 and 3-position tumbler in the US Springfield undated lock. CONDITION: Very good as western used and now has a great brown aged patina. The wood is weathered and has a very honest appearance. The pewter is patinated. The action operates properly and the bore is heavily worn with darkness n the grooves. Truly a classic example of a Northern Montana used rifle from the wild western expansion period. TDW
