Geweher 98 rifle manufactured by Spandau in 1910. Receiver is marked with a crown above "SPANDAU/ 1910" over the top of chamber. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the German Imperial eagle, with the right bearing Spandau arsenal proofs. Left side of receiver wall is marked "Gew. 98". Barrel is stamped "S" indicating that this rifle was converted to fire Spitzer ammunition. Matching numbers include the receiver, magazine follower, barrel, barrel bands, rear sight, bolt, trigger guard, floorplate, handguard, stock, buttplate, and cleaning rod. The receiver, bolt, and buttplate are in-the-white, with other metal components being blued. No visible import marks. Proper style leather sling appears to be an older reproduction. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their arsenal applied blue finish, showing some wear from handling and storage. Receiver and bolt show a pleasing grey patina, with the buttplate exhibiting some extremely light surface rust. Bright mirror bore, exhibiting strong and well-defined rifling throughout. Stock shows numerous dings and handling marks all around, but retains well-defined inspectors proofs. Stock is slightly chipped near bolt handle when closed. An outstanding example of a pre-World War I Gewehr 98 rifle. -MLW-
