Standard configuration, with Harpers Ferry model 1855 arsenal upgrade done circa 1856-1859. This is a "Type III" conversion, per Moller's. The conversion consisted of a bayonet lug being added to the right side of the muzzle, front sight was changed to the 1855 pattern, forend was shortened 2 - 1/4" and was retrofitted with the new pattern short nose cap. 1855 pattern long range rear sight. The barrels were also rebored to .58 caliber. Proper "AW/ P" inspectors mark on the left side of the barrel. Matching 1849 dates on the lock and barrel tang. "WCK" inspectors mark on the right side of the barrel just ahead of the bolster as well as on the left side of the stock, on the flat opposite the lock. Has a rack number of "13" on the trigger guard tang. No other visible markings on any of the brass components. Ramrod appears old, however could very well be a reproduction. CONDITION: Barrel retains 60% original thinning brown finish mixed with a pleasing patina and some light surface rust and dings. All markings are clear on steel parts and stock. Brass has been cleaned at some point and is bright, slowly returning to a dull color. Wood has dings and handling marks. Bore has strong rifling. Fine mechanical function. GR
