Flintlock Kentucky style rifle signed "N. Beyer" for Nicholas Beyer of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania who worked from 1780 to 1850. Smoothbore octagon barrel with German silver blade front sight and rifle style notched rear sight. Barrel has usual heavy-handed script signature "N Beyer". Period flint lock marked "Warranted" and controlled by a single trigger. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including four-piece patchbox with Beyer's signature Bird finial. Nice wide faceted brass trigger bow. Floral incised carving at the end of the moulding line. Brass teardrop inlay along toe with hole for touch hole pick. 1-3/4" wide butt with patchbox release lever in center-right of the buttplate. Nice incised line carving along toe and on the cheekpiece. Comes with original looking hardwood ramrod. Great condition signed example of a Nicholas Beyer never before on the market. CONDITION: Overall good except small piece of wood replaced in front on top of lock. Lock is a period lock with replaced frizzen spring. Most likely gun was reconverted to flint as barrel shows signs of heat damage. Barrel has good patina with correct length and has probably been bored out at one time explaining the large caliber. Stock is free of breaks and cracks with small gouge marks near toe and cheekpiece and under sideplate. Patchbox lid hinge is damaged but still functions. Dark shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
