Civil War Type II Model 1863 Springfield rifle manufactured in 1864. Fitted with standard 40" .58 caliber rifled barrel marked with "P / V / (Eaglehead)" proofs Mounted with 2 position leaf rear sight and front sight which doubles as a lug for a socket bayonet. Case hardened percussion lock marked with "US/SPRINGFIELD," stamped with eagle and "1864." Date also found on top of barrel. Walnut stock marked with 2 script cartouches above the trigger guard and secured with 3 iron barrel bands. Complete with tulip form ramrod. CONDITION: Very good. Metal exhibits a soft gray/brown patina all over with a few freckles and several indents on the lock plate. Stocks very good with some scattered usage and disassembly marks. Bore serviceable with visible rifling and some older, light corrosion. Mechanics crisp. BAS
