This music box was made circa 1850's in Geneva, Switzerland by the renowned makers of music boxes, clocks and watches, "Le coultre Freres". This is a fine example of a key-wind music box from the earlier period in the 19th century. Features of music boxes of this era include very narrow cases, often less elaborate inlays, a "Dragon's breath" finish on the case inside, and the controls and port for a winding key on the left side of the case, hidden by a hinged flap. This beautiful piece, signed by Lecoutre, has been lovingly restored and is contained in a rosewood case with an amazing tone and arrangements. Eight airs. From the collection of Rita Ford Music Boxes.
