Remington "Beal's" Navy Model six shot revolver made by E. Remington and Sons Ilion, New York between 1860 and 1862. Gun has been "Nickel Plated" and converted to .38 Rimfire at one point in time in this pistol's lifetime. Gun is marked on left flat of octagon barrel "Presented to Capt. Lewis from Col. Greene" and right barrel flat is marked "Cananea Mex. 1906". "Col. Greene" is most likely William Cornell Greene who was a famous businessman who discovered a rich copper deposit in Cananea, Mexico in the late 1800's. "Capt. Lewis" was probably "C.B. Lewis" who was in charge of handling matters at the Cananea Mine in 1906 when there was a huge miners strike. The gun has fame as the possible gun that Greene used to kill James Burnett in 1897 for causing the drowning death of his daughter and friend. Greene shot down James Burnett in Tombstone, Arizona and was never convicted. A book written by "C.L. Sonnichsen" called "Colonel Greene and the Copper Skyrocket" describes Green's gun and damage to it which exists on it today. An interesting piece for the Western collector or Tombstone history. Comes with copy of Sonnichsen book. CONDITION: 80% reapplied Nickel finish with large flake missing from cylinder with good bore and weak mechanics. Grips have damage at butt as described in book. DLM
