Large full size, modern made muzzle loading cannon with an overall length of 102". The iron barrel measures 48" with a 2-1/4" bore, marked on one trunnion "Co A Carlisle Penna 1779", the reverse trunnion marked "No 71". Cannon barrel rests on a sturdy well-made split-trail oak carriage with steel fittings which rides on heavy oak wheels with steel rims and hubs. Accessories include an oak rammer / sponge, oak handled worm, rope, and separate wood ammunition box. CONDITION: The barrel and fittings are in excellent condition showing very little use, the wood carriage also in excellent condition with a clear finish. CORRECTION: WELL-MADE FULL SCALE 3 POUNDER REVOLUTIONARY WAR STYLE CANNON WITH ACCESSORIES. Built by renowned master cannon maker Steven Gottshall, as a replica of a Carlisle-made 1779 Revolutionary War field cannon. Gottshall's work has been featured in 4th of July celebrations at Long's Park, as well as numerous museums and historical sites. Built using the same techniques as used during the period and constructed with the best materials. Mounted on a sturdy and well-made split-trail carriage with steel fittings on heavy handmade hickory (not oak) wheels. These were painstakingly crafted by the Witmer Coach Shop in New Holland, Pennsylvania, and are actual purpose-built cannon wheels.
