Manufactured in 1939, this Colt Official Police revolver is unique in that it has been fitted with a 2" factory barrel, and is factory roll stamped "B.P.D. No. 2689". Accompanying this revolver is a factory letter, which indicates that this revolver was one of 25 revolvers shipped on August 22, 1941, to the Boston Police Department's Ballistic Unit. The 2" factory barrel features a half-moon blade front sight, with the top strap featuring a serrated notched rear sight. The left side of the barrel is marked "38 SPECIAL/POLICE", with the right bearing Colt's 2 line address. Grip features a rounded butt, and is mounted with 2 piece Colt silver medallion checkered walnut grips. Trigger and hammer are checkered. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear, some scattered handling marks, and a few areas of freckling. Cylinder bears a light dragline, and shows a few areas of wear. Mirror bore, with a few small isolated areas of light pitting, but otherwise retaining sharp rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips, show smoothing all around, which is to be expected with a former law enforcement gun. A very nice example of a scarce and seldom seen Colt Official Police variant, that was issued to the Boston Police Department's Ballistic Unit. -MLW-
