Nelson Delany of first Bethlehem, Pennsylvania then Reading, Pennsylvania circa 1847 to 1885 heavy target style percussion rifle. Full octagon rifled barrel fitted with a 4 prong false muzzle and patent breech and stamped "N. Delany". Globe front sight with gunsmith made rear peep sight. Threaded dial adjustment screw indicating the gun possibly had a scope mounted on it and this would have been the rear elevation adjustment. R. Ashmore & Son marked engraved percussion lock controlled by double set trigger. Walnut checkered half stock with pewter nose cap and iron furniture including a curved tail toeplate that acts as a spring for the rifle to rest on. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has aged brown patina with light oil soaked layer of pitting on iron hardware. Wood has dark aged finish with usage marks and dings with 3" sliver missing in front of lock. Good shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
