Colt Model 1849 Pocket single action percussion revolver with engraving and holster. Made 1853. Top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY". "COLTS/PATENT" marked on the left side of the frame. Serials on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, cylinder arbor, and butt all match. Octagon barrel with shaved down front bead sight. Entire gun was silver plated at time of engraving. Stagecoach scene on the cylinder is present. Back strap is engraved "JOHN MEADOWS" with some scroll engraving. Walnut grips with light varnish added over original varnish. Includes unmarked Civil War era leather military-style flap holster. CONDITION: Barrel is turning a mottled dove gray patina and silver plating is flaking at recoil shield and is beginning to flake in other areas such as frame. Grips show some moderate wear but are strong with no signs of major distress. Bore has light frosting, but does retain sharp rifling. Hammer is tight. Cylinder is out of time, and is not turning with the hammer. Mechanically inoperable as the cylinder is not turning. Holster is fair with heavy crazing and wear. JWA
